Isaiah 54:2 (NIV) “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.” (The Message) “Clear lots of ground for your tents! Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big! Use plenty of rope, drive the tent pegs deep.” During the Sunday morning service, as the children go out for Sunday school, a provision is available for the secondary aged youth. It consists of contemporary worship and teaching relevant to youngsters in that age range. It’s a good opportunity to meet and to try and understand what the Bible teaches about issues important to them. It also gives the young people an opportunity to see what it is like to be part of the church of God and to be a passionate people after the heart of God. Those who attend will also be first in line for future trips. In the last while we have taken groups to the Edinburgh Christian music festival called FRENZY. Also, trips to the Scaladale centre based in the Isle of Harris. We hope and pray those who attend will be able to come away knowing a closer walk with Jesus and being encouraged to follow Him. As the text above speaks of enlarging the place of our tents, we are encouraged that we have had to do this as the number of youth attending has gone up in number. We aim to think big in terms of what God has in store for each one of us.

M@M's

M@M’s midweek youth club: Thursday nights from 7:30pm to 9:30pm in Martin's Memorial Church Hall. Primary 7 upwards. During the week we provide some facilities for the youth in and around the Stornoway area to come and enjoy each others company through sport and areas to relax. There are games such as table tennis, pool and badminton, along with a 'chill out' area. We are always looking for new ways to expand and to have evenings away at different venues to do different activities. There is also a tuck shop available. It’s a great opportunity to open the door for non churched and churched youth alike to hear about Jesus and to enable them not to feel like strangers to us. The youth club is run with the help of volunteers and would not be possible without them. A big thank you to all who help out. Extended Activities: Each Saturday night we partake in band practice and worship along with bible study afterwards. We enjoy some light fellowship with one another whilst partaking in the studies. There is tea/coffee available. This provision is for all secondary aged youth and it begins at 7:30pm and finishes no later than 10pm. For any more information regarding any of the topics above or even just to find out about the youth work in general through Martins Memorial Church, contact Norman Morrison (youth worker) on

  1. On Friday, 5th June, 2009, a group of 40 youth and youth leaders from Martin’s Memorial filled three minibuses and headed to Edinburgh. Their destination: Frenzy! Frenzy is the largest annual Christian music festival in Britain. This year the line-up at Frenzy was very impressive—a series of internationally renowned Christian bands performed for a crowd of 7,000 young people! Third Day, the David Crowder Band, Parachute Band, and Hillsong London were some of the bands that led the crowd in this monumental worship event. The common goal for both the bands and the audience was to use their talent and energy to praise and glorify our Maker. In so doing there was also a lot of loud noise and fun!

The whole trip was a success. The group stopped at various places on their journey there and back, such as the waterslides in Landmark and the shopping centre in Inverness. The youth group also sported their own talent show in the Vine church in Dunferlime, where they stayed. Their hilarious acts resulted in roars of laughter and side-splitting entertainment! They also had a blessed time as they enjoyed worshipping with the Parachute band who led the Sunday morning church service. The whole weekend was very enjoyable. Great fun was had by all!

  2. Scott MacLeod: It was so funny seeing Cameron and Norman Afrin miss the boat and come flying down the waterslide!

  3. Matthew MacNeil: I liked getting wet at the Landmark waterslides!

  4. Mary Haubrick: I liked everything at Frenzy!

  5. Joanne MacNeil: I loved the talent show! We had a Lion King act with great backcombed hair, makeup and dance moves. I liked jumping around to the David Crowder band and Hillsong at Frenzy. George’s minibus was good too!

  6. Jodie Sinclair: It was so funny when Goongie and Kenzie imitated the Stavros Flatley act off Britain’s Got Talent!
